Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning may have made his final start for the New York Giants on Thanksgiving Day against the Washington Redskins.
Giants head coach Ben McAdoo wants to get a better look at the team’s other quarterbacks, Geno Smith and Davis Webb, to see if either player has a future with the franchise. As a result, Manning’s streak of 210 consecutive starts, which trails only Brett Favre’s streak of 297, is likely going to come to an end. And with the Giants inching closer and closer to a top-five pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, all signs point towards Manning continuing his illustrious NFL career with another team.
The Giants will likely trade or release Manning next offseason, and the former Ole Miss star should get plenty of interest on the open market.
With that being said, here is a look at the three most likely landing spots for Manning in 2018.
It’s no secret that the Broncos are going to be in the market for a new starting quarterback next offseason. They had great success with another aging veteran quarterback, Eli’s brother Peyton, who still resides in Denver, and despite what their record would suggest, the Broncos do have a good amount of talent already on their roster.
If I were picking today, the Broncos would be my pick as the most likely landing spot for Manning as of today.
Now that the Jaguars are a legitimate postseason contender, the pressure is on Blake Bortles to consistently play at a high level. And when it comes down to it, Bortles has been mediocre in 2017. The only way he can truly save his job may be to lead the Jaguars to a win in the AFC Playoffs.
If the Jaguars opt to make a change at the position next offseason, Manning could make sense, given his familiarity with Jacksonville Executive Vice President of Football Operations Tom Coughlin.
With Carson Palmer likely headed towards retirement this coming offseason, the Cardinals could be in the market for a new starting quarterback. They will likely try to draft a potential franchise quarterback early in the 2018 NFL Draft, but acquiring a proven veteran, such as Manning, isn’t totally out of the question.
Remember, taking a chance on Kurt Warner paid massive dividends for the Cardinals from 2005-2009.
