Denver Broncos linebacker Shane Ray has only been back for two games. Both were losses, first to the Kansas City Chiefs and then a blowout against the Philadelphia Eagles. He does not have a single sack and is already fed up with how this year is going.
“We just need to get our shit together,” Ray said on The Afternoon Drive with Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro, per Laurie Lattimore-Volkmann of Mile High Report. “It’s just that simple. It’s a lot going on. As a team, the leaders, the veterans, we need to get this together. 3-5 is not Broncos football. We’re used to being a high-caliber championship team and we’re not playing to that level. It’s just unacceptable.”
Ray was drafted in 2015 and so he won the Super Bowl as a rookie. That’s the type of play he expects. This defense, the same one the Eagles tore apart, has been one of the best in the NFL for his entire time in the league.
There has been some criticism of coach Vance Joseph as the Broncos’ losing streak grows. He’s never been a head coach before. That said, Ray absolutely supports him and thinks it’s not his fault.
“Vance is doing everything he can. He brought in a good regime. It’s collective,” Ray said. “You can’t point a finger at this guy or this guy. It’s something everybody on the entire Broncos staff has to do differently or do better. Everybody’s got to step it up to a whole other level. Until we do that, it’s going to be abysmal. We can’t allow that.”
The Broncos play the New England Patriots on Sunday. If they could finally step up and snap their losing streak in a game they’re heavily predicted to lose, it’d be a huge statement.
