Ex-Broncos CB Lorenzo Doss channels his inner Donald Trump to burn John Elway

Former Denver Broncos cornerback Lorenzo Doss got cut. Word came out afterward that he showed up late to a team meeting, so they just let him go.

Doss was less than thrilled to see those reports going around. He fired back at Broncos boss John Elway and director of player personnel Matt Russell.

“I’m disappointed in Matt Russell and Elway for putting out fake news about me,” Doss wrote on Twitter. “I never had a problem or been a problem in the locker room!! #scapegoat.”

The Broncos have been bad this year, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense for Doss to be the scapegoat. He is a depth player, a guy who has 5 career tackles in two years. He doesn’t have a single stat in 2017. He’s never recorded an NFL interception in his life.

The defense has declined, but no one was sitting around saying it was Lorenzo Doss’ fault. Odds are the Broncos are just trying to plan for the future, they saw that Doss hasn’t done anything, and they decided it wasn’t worth any more time.

Interestingly, though, the other cornerbacks had high praise for Doss in camp before the season started, and it sounded like this could be a breakout year.

“Doss is taking that step,” Aqib Talib said, per Jeff Essary of Mile High Report. “He’s making a lot of plays on that ball, and besides that he’s in the right spot a lot more than he was last year. We got a little board that we keep track of everything. His mental error column is almost empty and he’s getting better in that area.”

“Doss is just a ball hog,” added Chris Harris. “Doss is always around the ball. He may get beat but he might still come out with a pick. It’s a win-lose with Doss.”
