Pat Forde brought to light some disturbing messages left within the comments section of Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks’ Instagram account.
On Monday, under the heading “Fans: Try To Locate Your Humanity,” the Yahoo Sports columnist touched on some unfortunate messages that were left for Franks this season. Forde described those messages as “disgusting.”
Forde made sure to mention that there were supportive comments to be read as well. However, he added that there were plenty examples of vitriol.
Here’s more from Forde’s column:
To be sure, there are more supportive comments than negative directed at Franks from self-described Florida fans, even in a season that has fallen apart. But there is no shortage of hateful vitriol to be found, either. Among the posts during this football season (edited for taste, not grammar or spelling):
“If i was your coach I would pay them to hurt you.”
“F— you I hope you die b—-.”
“Can you please just leave the program, you’re aids.”
Forde included other messages, but you understand his point.
There’s no excuse for this, no matter what you think of Franks as a player or the Gators’ performance this season. Yes, Florida has struggled while earning a 3-5 record. But it’s a shame Franks or any other player would have to deal with those messages.
Here’s hoping some people cool down, and they think twice before posting something awful.
