Wisconsin loses redshirt-sophomore LB Zack Baun for the season with a foot injury

Wisconsin’s linebacking corps was already thin with the season-ending knee injury to Jack Cichy. Now, linebacker Zack Baun is on that list.

Baun, a redshirt-sophomore, was listed as out for the year on Wisconsin’s preliminary injury report in advance to the Badgers’ season-opener against Utah State.

Baun was expected to see a bigger role this season at outside linebacker in 2017, with the departures of T.J. Watt and Vince Biegel to the NFL and the loss of Cichy to injury.

In 2016, Baun played in 12 of the Badgers’ 14 games, recording 15 total tackles, making 3.5 tackles for loss and forcing one fumble.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Baun was being projected to be behind starting outside linebackers Garrett Dooley and Leon Jacobs. Although he wasn’t expected to start, Baun’s talent was expected to provide depth for Wisconsin’s linebacking corps.

That linebacking position is now looking thin, as the Badgers did not add a linebacker prospect in the 2017 recruiting class.
