Wisconsin DC Jim Leonhard named Broyles Award finalist

Wisconsin DB Jim Leonhard is getting recognition as one of the best assistant coaches in the country.

On Monday, Leonhard was named one of the five finalists for the Broyles Award, which goes to the top assistant.

The 35-year-old Leonhard is in his first season as Wisconsin’s defensive coordinator. The Badgers have been dominant on defense in getting to 12-0 going into the Big Ten Championship Game.

Wisconsin is allowing 12 points per game and 236.9 yards per game. On the ground, the Badgers surrender only 80.5 yards per game and 2.6 yards per rush.

Leonhard was a former walk-on with Wisconsin. He became three-time All-American and had 21 interceptions in his college career. He played in every game during his four-year career with the Badgers.
