COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp knew during Sunday night’s teleconference that Deebo Samuel would be back in 2018.
After Samuel was declared out for the season, Muschamp said it wasn’t the time nor the place to discuss the wide receiver’s playing future.
The redshirt junior certainly had options. Stick around and play his final season at South Carolina or declare for the NFL Draft.
Samuel made the news public on Sunday night, shortly after Muschamp’s teleconference was over.
“That’s the young man’s announcement and his family, that’s not mine,” Muschamp said. “And I’d talked to his mom and he and his family. … That’s their decision not me mine. Obviously, we’re excited.
“I think that says a lot about our program, to have a guy like Bryson Allen-Williams and Deebo Samuel, guys that are excited about coming back to South Carolina. They see what we’re building. They see what’s happening. They see the support that we have and they want to be Gamecocks and that’s exciting.
“Deebo, he’s excited. He’s excited about coming back, the opportunity to come back, the prospects moving forward, all the things. It’s an exciting time here at the University of South Carolina.”
