ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit had plenty to say about the SEC on Saturday’s edition of College Gameday in Coral Gables, Fla. ahead of the showdown between no. 3 Notre Dame and no. 7 Miami.
Here are some of Herbie’s thoughts:
— He thinks Auburn’s chances against Georgia will come down to how well the Tigers are able to contain the Bulldogs’ prolific running game. He called the Auburn defensive line the best front Georgia will have faced this season.
— He is concerned about Nick Chubb and Sony Michel’s ability to break big cut back runs against Auburn. He says he thinks Auburn is going to load up against the run and force Jake Fromm into obvious passing situations. To retaliate, he thinks UGA will frequently lean on early-down play action.
— He called Mississippi State’s offense one dimensional, and that despite Alabama’s injuries on defense, it wouldn’t be enough against the Crimson Tide.
— He said he initially picked Auburn to beat Georgia, but after the rest of the College Gameday panel selected Auburn, Herbie switched his pick to the Bulldogs.
