Virginia Tech fell to Georgia Tech in Justin Fuente’s first season last year, but it didn’t cost the Hokies a chance at winning the Coastal Division.
The division title wasn’t on the line Saturday, but the Yellow Jackets once again played spoilers to the Hokies, and this time, it could really hurt Virginia Tech. Georgia Tech quarterback Taquon Marshall completed just 2 passes but threw for 140 yards and each completion ended in a touchdown.
Marshall threw an 80-yard strike to reclaim the lead late in the fourth quarter, and Georgia Tech won, 28-22.
With this loss, Virginia Tech must win-out to finish with nine victories, which might not be enough to be in a New Year’s Six Bowl. That remained a goal for the Hokies even after losing last week to Miami.
