What James Franklin said after Penn State’s 35-6 win over Rutgers

Penn State shook off a slow start to rally and blow by Rutgers, 35-6, on Saturday afternoon at Beaver Stadium. The win snapped a 2-game losing skid for the No. 14 Nittany Lions, who are now 8-2 on the season and 5-2 in the Big Ten.

Here’s what James Franklin had to say after Saturday’s victory:

On bouncing back after poor start, and turnover on opening kickoff…

“Besides the opening kick, I thought we played pretty good. There’s some things we’ve got to get cleaned up…. We made progress and got a good win against a program on the rise.”

On QB Trace McSorley using his legs for 44 rushing yards and a touchdown…

“We’re always at our best when Trace is involved in the run game.”

On the play of linebackers Jason Cabinda and Brandon Smith, who started for Manny Bowen…

“(Cabinda’s) been tremendous in his entire career here. This year he’s been steady-eddy, very consistent. B. Smith is another veteran player, very productive. He went out and played at a very high level.”

Franklin added that Bowen missed Saturday’s game due to a “violation of team rules.”

On Saquon Barkley’s body language…

“He’s been great. All these guys have nagging bumps and bruises, and he’s no different.”
