Long graded out at a 89.5, second overall among linebackers, and Askew Henry a 90.1.
The Mountaineers held normally stellar Iowa State quarterback Kyle Kempt to only 249 yards passing and a single touchdown. West Virginia also intercepted Kempt once.
The Mountaineers stepped up on the defensive side of the ball, now they’ll need to up their game on the offensive side. Kansas State is a fundamental defense that rarely makes mistakes, and the week after that, they’ll have to face off against Texas and their solid secondary.
The road ahead is uncertain, but the Mountaineers will be favored in their next two games. West Virginia was only blown out by Oklahoma State this year, despite multiple losses. The Mountaineers control their own destiny in conference play, but they have to keep winning.
