West Virginia basketball vs. Texas A&M: Live updates, score, analysis (November 10, 2017)

The West Virginia Mountaineers are tipping off tonight against the Texas A&M Aggies in one of the best season opening showdowns of the year.

We’ll finally get to see Mountaineer stars Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles square off against a talented A&M squad that will be missing multiple members due to suspensions. West Virginia isn’t without its troubles as well, forward Esa Ahmad is serving a suspension as well.

The matchup sparks a season of possibility for West Virginia. They’ve been picked second in the Big 12, and they made it as far as the Sweet Sixteen last season. West Virginia fell to Gonzaga, who made it all the way to the finals. If the Mountaineers get off to a good start in this game, there’s no reason why they can’t be very competitive with the Jayhawks, the current kings of the conference.

West Virginia basketball vs. Texas A&M preview, keys to the game

  • Experience wins games. West Virginia returns three starters and eight total members from last year’s squad that went to the Sweet Sixteen. They’ll have the age advantage against the Aggies, and they’ll need to use it well if they’re going to pull out a victory. They’ll have Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles ready to roll, and would be wise to pressure A&M’s youth.
  • Press Virginia rides again. If you haven’t heard, the Mountaineers run the full court press. This will undoubtedly cause some problems for A&M, and the Mountaineers need to take full advantage if their strategy causes confusion. Rack up the steals and the points early and often, don’t be afraid to pull out all the stops.
  • If you take this loss, learn from it. It’s going to be a long season, and A&M absolutely has the ability to take down WVU. A loss isn’t how you want to start your season off, but there should be no reason to overreact to whatever happens in this game.
