There are some things in life that you just have to see to believe. And we may have watched Kevin Sumlin’s career at Texas A&M crumble before our very eyes on Sunday night.
The Aggies blew a 34-point second-half lead to lose to UCLA, 45-44, at the Rose Bowl.
For a coach who entered the season with pressure to win from his administration, this certainly was not the optimal way to start the season. In fact, it may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back for many Aggies fans who were hoping for a special season.
The NCAA record for a comeback is 35 points.
On Twitter, the reaction was remarkable. College football fans from all walks wanted to weigh in on the comeback from Bruins QB Josh Rosen, who led threw for nearly 500 yards in an amazing effort.
Here’s a look at what the consensus was on Sumlin’s job status in the moments following the shocking outcome:
Matt Ryan: Boy, we blew that one
Kevin Sumlin: Hold my Gatorade

I try not to make rash decisions in the heat of the moment, but Sumlin & Chavis both have to go. Right?

There's no way Kevin Sumlin doesn't get Kiffin'ed after that game, right? #UCLAvsTAMU

I was all for giving Sumlin a second chance after he blew our 5-0 record last season. But blowing a 34 point lead….? Fire that man.

Sumlin is told to find his own ride back to College Station, right?

Honestly. Even if we won the Natty, I'd still want Sumlin gone.

I hate to see thos happen to coach Sumlin. But he has had a good run. Don't see them keeping him after this embarrassment.
