WATCH: Stanford releases ‘Game of Thrones’ hype video ahead of Pac-12 title game meeting with USC

USC released a mid-season  Star Wars-themed hype video. Stanford just one-upped the Trojans.

The school’s athletic department and social media team released its own hype video Friday, just hours before the Cardinal takes on the Trojans in the Pac-12 Championship Game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. While the Trojans rode a theme of intergalactic conflict, the Cardinal chose a different type of fantasy, rooted in HBO’s hit series  Game of Thrones.

It works, too, because Stanford is coming to the title game showdown as representatives of the Pac-12 North Division. They also likely recall what happened last time the two schools met (the Trojans won 42-24). The North remembers.

It’s a grade-A hype video, featuring all of the hallmarks — highlights of past conference title triumphs and battles between the two participating teams, scenics of where the latest contest will take place — that would induce chills from even the average viewer without ties to either program. It got former Cardinal star Solomon Thomas riled up.

Stanford and USC kick off Friday at 5 p.m. PT.
