COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina sophomore quarterback Jake Bentley is 1-0 in his second season as the Gamecocks starter.
After going 4-3 as a freshman in 2016, Bentley led South Carolina to a 35-28 win over North Carolina State on Saturday, completing 17 of 29 passes for 215 yards with 3 touchdowns and an interception.
Those numbers pale in comparison to what Missouri quarterback Drew Lock did in Missouri’s 72-43 win over Missouri State last weekend. The junior connected on 21 of 34 throws for 521 yards with 7 touchdowns and an interception.
“He’s a great quarterback,” Bentley said. “They have a great offense, but the name of the game is to score more points than them, whether it’s 14-10 or 70-60. Our goal is to score more points than them and that’s what we’re going to try to do.”
The two quarterbacks will go toe-to-toe on Saturday night in Columbia, Mo.
“We’re going to come in there with the same mindset as we do every other game [and] that’s just we want to score on every drive,” Bentley said. “If we do that, we’ll be fine.”
