COLUMBIA, S.C. — Tight end Hayden Hurst, ‘Buck’ D.J. Wonnum and linebackers Eldridge Thompson and T.J. Brunson were among the South Carolina football players to meet with reporters on Tuesday morning.
Hurst, who only caught 1 pass against N.C. State, was named offensive player of the game by the Gamecock coaches.
Wonnum, a sophomore, was one of four Gamecocks to record a sack in his first college start.
Brunson was South Carolina’s top performer on the defensive side of the ball. The sophomore had a game-high 16 tackles in his first college start at linebacker.
Thompson, a first-year junior college transfer, backs up star linebacker Skai Moore, but he got on the field in some pretty critical situations against N.C. State.
South Carolina coach Will Muschamp is scheduled to speak before reporters at 1 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. SEC Country will be live from Williams-Brice Stadium, to provide real-time updates from the Gamecocks second-year head coach.
After going 1-4 on the road last season, South Carolina looks to win its second SEC contest away from home with Muschamp. In two weeks, the Gamecocks will have its first home game against Kentucky.
