WATCH: Butch Jones says Tennessee ‘built on grit’ after 42-41 OT win

ATLANTA — Tennessee coach Butch Jones likes to talk about the character of his football team.

On Monday night, it was on display for all to see.

How else to explain the No. 25-ranked Vols’ unlikely come-from-behind 42-41 double-overtime victory over Georgia Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium?

“We spoke all week long about a will to win,” Jones said. “We knew that this was going to be a game that you had to show some resolve and some grit.”

The Yellow Jackets dominated the yardage (655-369) as well as the time of possession (41:27-18:33).

And yet, Tennessee just kept hanging in there, taking advantage of superior special teams, and not turning over the football.

“It’s all in how they tell the narrative,” Jones said, asked about the Vols’ wild finishes the past two seasons. “Maybe our program just has great character and grit.

“This is a football program built on character, it’s built on grit, it’s built on belief and we found a way to win when we didn’t play our best, but a lot of that is a tribute to Georgia Tech.”

Here’s a look at Butch Jones’ press conference late Monday night.
