WATCH: Blake Griffin visits Oklahoma football, announces Jordan Brand uniforms

Oklahoma athletics announced on Thursday that football and both men’s and women’s basketball would be wearing Jordan Brand uniforms beginning in 2018.

The Sooners invited just the right person to break the news to the football team at its practice facility.

Los Angeles Clippers power forward and former Oklahoma basketball star Blake Griffin swung by the campus in Norman, Okla. on Thursday to make the announcement to the team.

Griffin played at Oklahoma from 2007-2009. He swept the national player of the year awards during his sophomore — and final — season with the Sooners. He averaged 22.7 points and 14.4 rebounds per game during the 2008-2009 season.

The former Oklahoma star’s visit to campus in the middle of the NBA season wasn’t spontaneous. The Clippers were in town Thursday ahead of their Friday night matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The three programs making the change to the Jordan Brand currently wear uniforms designed by Nike — which owns the brand. The football team — which will be the first Sooners program to sport the brand — will join Michigan and North Carolina as one of three programs nationally to use Jordan Brand uniforms.
