Washington State went 9-3 this season, and if not for a loss to rival Washington in Saturday’s Apple Cup would be playing in the Pac-12 championship game. Mike Leach has led the Cougars to 26 wins the past three years, and that’s understandably led to his name getting mentioned for other jobs.
Will that happen? Who knows. But WSU president Kirk Schultz isn’t going to sit back and let it.
— Kirk H Schulz (@WSU_Cougar_Pres) November 27, 2017
Schultz’s tweet included a link to a story by 247Sports’ Barry Bolton about Leach’s future at WSU, where he is 38-38 in six seasons and has a rolling 5-year contract that’s worth up to $2.95 million per year. That’s fifth-best among Pac-12 coaches whose salaries are made public (everyone but USC), per USA Today.
Arkansas is among the openings that Leach has been linked to. The Razorbacks just fired Bret Bielema, who made $4.2 million in 2017.
