Vols AD John Currie ‘inspired’ by Barstool Sports slogan in odd quote

University of Tennessee athletic director John Currie has been under a lot of pressure lately because he hasn’t fired head coach Butch Jones yet.

Fans have even started up an #EmptyNeyland campaign to try and get other fans not to attend games in protest. Still, Currie is undeterred and found a lot of confidence walking through the stadium on Saturday night, or so he thought.

He was clearly a little misguided, as fans quoted a famous viral Barstool Sports saying that probably wasn’t directed at the Tennessee players.

From Knoxville News’ Mike Wilson:

“I had so many people coming up to me saying they were there for the players,” Currie said to the Rotary Club of Knoxville on Tuesday. “They came for the boys. That’s what one of them said, ‘Saturdays are for the boys.’ That was inspiring to me.

See, “Saturdays are for the boys” is something that Barstool came up with and has been putting on t-shirts and flags for awhile now. A lot people seem to just say it randomly, it’s meant to be funny, not necessarily inspiring.

See the examples below:

Just search through that #SAFTB hashtag and you will see further examples of the joke. One Currie clearly didn’t understand.
