Vanderbilt lost some depth at quarterback Wednesday when redshirt freshman quarterback Jacob Free announced he would transfer.

Free was a 3-star recruit according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He sat behind Kyle Shurmur and Deuce Wallace, Free never had a chance to start.

Free says in his message that he will transfer to Northwest Mississippi Community College, but doesn’t say if he’s going to try and get back to the Division I level somewhere else.

A Brantley, Alabama native, he helped his high school toa 30-9 overall record and threw for 2,712 yards and 31 touchdowns in his senior season.
