Baylor sits at 1-8 with three games to go, hapless Kansas saving the Bears from a winless season. They won’t win a Big 12 title, but another title recently came their way.
USA Today’s Paul Myerberg picked the top teams for each victory total and went with Baylor as the top one-win team. Other FBS teams with only one victory are Kansas, Charlotte, Rice, San Jose State, Oregon State and Coastal Carolina.
Only two of the Bears’ eight losses were by more than two scores, a 59-16 loss to Oklahoma State and a 38-7 loss to Texas. They nearly upset Oklahoma and West Virginia, losing those games by a combined nine points. A late two-point conversion could’ve sent them to overtime against the Mountaineers.
Of course, Baylor also lost to FCS Liberty and UTSA of Conference USA. It’s been a difficult season in many ways for the Bears. But starting with the 38-9 victory against the Jayhawks, Baylor has a chance to provide hope for the future.
The Bears’ schedule wraps up with Texas Tech, Iowa State and TCU. Victories in those games, especially over the Horned Frogs, would give the team plenty of belief heading into its second season under coach Matt Rhule.
