For a few minutes Wednesday afternoon, Tennessee’s coaching search appeared to be coming to an end. But those moments were fleeting, and now it appears the Vols are right back where they started.
Just before 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Tennessee insider Jimmy Hyams reported the Vols “will soon” announce the hiring of Purdue’s Jeff Brohm.
On top of that, Brohm has been out recruiting for the Boilermakers today and has reportedly told multiple recruits that he is not leaving for Knoxville.
If Brohm isn’t the choice, it would be just the latest development in chaotic Tennessee coaching search that has vetted (and potentially offered) candidates like Jon Gruden, Greg Schiano, David Cutcliffe and Mike Gundy. There are other candidates such as Chad Morris, Chip Kelly and Dan Mullen that were rumored to have received interest from the Vols.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the latest uncertainty in Knoxville:
Great question, and unresolved it might motivate Brohm not to go. https://t.co/dQvdSckJwy

Tennessee had a coach on Sunday. It's Wednesday. He would've had the ball rolling on staff hires and recruiting. The #Vols would be in a much better position right now. If Jeff Brohm doesn't happen, don't blame Currie. He had a coach hired.

Honestly, if I’m Jeff Brohm, is Tennessee really a better job than Purdue right now? Have to think, the pressure to win in West Lafayette is nothing like the pressure to win in Knoxville. Brohm’s 6-6 season at Purdue is seen as a success, while 6-6 in Year 1 at Tennessee wouldn’t

Schiano is better than Brohm.

Please let them strike on out Brohm too. Oh please. https://t.co/Z3a4GIYXgN
