Twitter reacts to Miami dropping to No. 7 in latest College Football Playoff ranking

Miami-College Football Playoff rankings

As expected, Miami dropped in the College Football Playoff standings after a loss to Pitt on Friday afternoon. The Hurricanes fell from No. 2 to No. 7 in the playoff committee’s latest rankings released on Tuesday night.

Miami probably received some measure of good news with Clemson’s new ranking as No. 1. If the Hurricanes defeat the Tigers in the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte on Saturday, they will likely find themselves in one of the two semifinal games set for New Year’s Day.

People on Twitter following the unveiling of the latest rankings seemed to agree with that sentiment, while some more neutral observers were split on whether or not dropping the Hurricanes five spots was the right call or not. Either way, Saturday’s game in Charlotte should be an interesting affair and could very well serve as a virtual quarterfinal.

Miami and Clemson play for the ACC Championship on Saturday at 8pm. The game can be seen on ABC.
