TE Troy Fumagalli earns All-America recognition, Wisconsin-UCLA series set, and more

Troy Fumagalli honored

The Big Ten is stacked with a number of very good tight ends, and that was highlighted by Wisconsin senior Troy Fumagalli being named a second-team preseason All-American by the Associated Press, while Penn State’s Mike Gesicki was thefirst-team selection.

Wisconsin-UCLA series set

The Badgers added another Power 5 team to their future schedule, this one a home-and-home series against UCLA. One game will be played at the Rose Bowl in 2029 and the return game will come in 2030 at Camp Randall Stadium.

Wisconsin closes tour with a win

Freshman Brad Davison scored a team-high 23 points to lead Wisconsin past the Sydney Kings 83-71 early Tuesday morning in Australia. The victory helped the Badgers finish their overseas tour 4-1.

Former coach impacted Marquis Williams’ decision

Charlie Partridge helped Wisconsin build a valuable pipeline in South Florida in the mid-2000s, and he’s remained a strong recruiter in the area. Now at Pittsburgh, Partridge was one reason 3-star cornerback Marquis Williams chose the Panthers over the Badgers and others, according to Jesse Temple.

It’s finally Garrett Dooley’s time

Garrett Dooley has played in the shadow of Joe Schobert, Vince Biegel and T.J. Watt, but the senior is now the man at outside linebacker and ready for a big season, writes Jim Polzin of the Wisconsin State Journal.

Wisconsin fan base is pretty happy

ESPN went to work trying to determine the happiest and most miserable fan bases in college football, and Badgers fans were among those that like what they’ve seen.

Joe Schobert pushing for a starting job

The former Badgers outside linebacker had a big game Monday night for the Cleveland Browns, and his efforts this preseason have Schobert poised to grab a starting job.

Injury keeping Vince Biegel sidelined

It’s been more than three months since Biegel underwent foot surgery, but according to Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy, the fourth-round draft pick won’t practice this week. Jason Wilde of the Wisconsin State Journal writes the former Badgers linebacker’s availability to start the season is in doubt.

Matt Jurusik left because of playing time concerns

Former Wisconsin goaltender Matt Jurusik told Todd Milewski of Madison.com that he left the Badgers because of playing time concerns.
