Tommie Frazier calls out Nebraska defensive coordinator Bob Diaco

Tommie Frazier is not impressed with what he’s seen from Nebraska’s defense under first-year coordinator Bob Diaco.

In the second quarter of Nebraska’s game at Minnesota on Saturday, Frazier called out Diaco on Twitter. “Are you serious right now,” Frazier said with the Huskers down 20-7 against the Gophers. “When is this high price dc gonna start coaching.”

This is the latest criticism in what’s been a frustrating season for Nebraska fans and former players. Frazier, the Huskers star quarterback in the program’s glory days of the mid-1990s, also called out head coach Mike Riley earlier in the season, saying he “isn’t the answer.”

In Diaco’s first season as defensive coordinator, the Huskers entered Saturday’s game ranked 13th in the Big Ten in scoring defense (30.1 points per game) and total defense (400.7 yards per game). Diaco is making $825,000 this season and is set to make $875,000 in his second season. He is the highest-paid assistant coach in program history.

Minnesota scored its first points of the game against Nebraska on special teams, but the Gophers did already have more than 150 rushing yards early in the second quarter of Saturday’s game.

Earlier this week, Land of 10’s Erin Sorensen wrote why Diaco and his 3-4 scheme was never a short-term fix for the Huskers.
