Baker Mayfield has a huge opportunity to boost his Heisman Trophy campaign against TCU on Saturday, according to Tim Tebow.
Tebow, the ’07 Heisman Trophy winner, joined ESPN’s First Take on Friday to discuss the massive showdown between Oklahoma and TCU. The former Florida quarterback noted Mayfield is the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy, but most of his jaw-dropping performances have come against the questionable defenses of the Big 12.
For any voters skeptical of Mayfield’s statistics because of the competition he’s faced, Tebow says the senior has a huge opportunity to prove them wrong against a solid TCU defense — and we all know how much Mayfield loves proving people wrong.
The Sooners gunslinger is coming off a 62-52 win over then-No. 11 Oklahoma State, throwing for close to 600 yards passing. He’s been remarkable all season, and he’s put Oklahoma four wins away from making the College Football Playoff.
Saturday’s game against TCU will be his biggest challenge against a defense since facing Ohio State on Sept. 9. Mayfield came out on top in that one on the road, and he’ll get to play TCU from the comfort of Owen Field when the No. 5 and No. 6-ranked teams meet at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
