Victor Viramontes’ recruiting odyssey has taken a bevy of twists and turns, but the junior college quarterback finally attained a measure of clarity Monday, as he announced his verbal commitment to Minnesota.
“I would like to thank everyone who recruited me and gave me an opportunity to play at their school,” Viramontes said in a Twitter post.

Viramontes, a product of Norco High School (California), originally committed to Michigan out of high school. He flipped his commitment to Cal, spending one redshirt season at his home-state school before leaving when Justin Cox took over for Sonny Dykes before this season.
He has spent the past season at Riverside City College, where he’s been 109-of-177 for 1,575 yards and 20 touchdowns to eight interceptions through the air. He’s also rushed for 1,336 yards and 21 touchdown.
A three-star recruit according to 247sports, Viramontes is the Gophers’ lone quarterback commit for the class of 2018. He also had offers from Kansas, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Kentucky, New Mexico, Ole Miss and UNLV.
