Former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze is out to tell his story in 2018.
Liberty University announced that Freeze and his wife, Jill, are on campus in Lynchburg, Va. to take part in a discussion about his career. It will be his first public appearance since resigning from his post at Ole Miss prior to the 2017 season due to troubling patterns of personal misconduct, which included improper use of a university-issued phone to contact an escort service. The Rebels also received NCAA infractions, including a bowl ban, for violations committed by the Rebels coaching staff while Freeze was in charge. He was replaced by Matt Luke.
The private university is hosting Freeze and his wife at one of their “convocations” alongside Dr. Chip Henderson. It begins at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday and can be viewed live via the school’s Office of Spiritual Development Facebook page.
Here’s what Liberty released about the appearance:
Hugh Freeze was portrayed in the Academy Award-winning movie, “The Blind Side,” which starred Sandra Bullock, Ray McKinnon, and Tim McGraw. Freeze played a small cameo role in the film. In Freeze’s six years as the head football coach at Ole Miss, he had an illustrious career with four straight bowl appearances, including a win in the 2015 Sugar Bowl. But in 2016, at the height of his career, Freeze was forced to resign due to a pattern of personal misconduct. This will be the Freezes’ first public appearance since Hugh’s highly publicized removal from Ole Miss. As the Freeze family’s pastor, Henderson will give raw and honest insight while the couple shares their story of mountaintops and deep valleys, testifying to the grace and redemptive power of God.
Freeze tweeted a message about the appearance on Wednesday morning.
“We are humbled to be here,” he wrote. “Hopeful our story can help someone!!”
Jill Freeze has offered deep thoughts on Twitter in recent months, including this nugget she shared with her followers on New Year’s Day for contemplation:
It will be interesting to see what comes out of Freeze’s talk.
