On the beat: Nebraska, UCF and the Scott Frost pandemonium

Let’s just call it what it is, shall we? It is pandemonium for Nebraska and UCF fans right now. Well, it’s pandemonium for a lot of football programs but we’re going to just focus on the Huskers and Knights.

Once Nebraska and former coach Mike Riley parted ways, it was only a matter of time until the Frost rumors really kicked into gear. With more and more programs — who are also seeking new head coaches — hiring other candidates, it has felt like it’s only a matter of time until Frost comes home.

The former Nebraska quarterback is currently in his second season with the University of Central Florida. He has led the Knights to an undefeated season, and they’ll play for the AAC championship on Saturday. Needless to say, UCF fans don’t want Frost to leave. It’s understandable.

It’s also created quite a bit of tension from Nebraska for the Sunshine State.

And then there was the claim that Nebraska’s media was camped outside Frost’s parents house in Wood River. A local reporter covering UCF asked Frost for his thoughts on the matter, and he responded that he wasn’t too pleased.

“I didn’t know that but that makes me mad,” Frost said.

Going back to that first tweet above though, it wasn’t a TV station camped outside of the Frost family home (at least not one that has been confirmed). It was instead a phone call that was made, but Frost’s parents said they wouldn’t do an interview.

And that is where we are now. There are rumors that everything will be settled by this weekend, but that was the assumption all along. Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos has wanted to be patient with Frost and let him finish UCF’s season before asking him to depart. It was the right thing to do, even if it means there’s a bit of pandemonium in the decision’s wake.

So, settle in. The weekend is near and a lot will be known soon enough. With it, both fan bases will have the answers they are looking for.

Until then, it’s OK if there’s a little pandemonium. That’s what makes coaching search season so entertaining, even if it drives us all a little crazy, too.
