Miami’s defensive line board continues to grow, this time with the addition of perhaps the highest profile realistic target yet. Keondre Coburn, a 4-star defensive tackle committed to Texas, told DieHards on Wednesday he will take an official visit this weekend to Coral Gables, Fla.
“This weekend,” the Under Armour All-American told DieHards in a message.
Andrew Ivins of 247sports.com first reported Coburn’s interest ahead of the Jan. 4 Under Armour All-America Game in Orlando.
Before suiting up for the game, which included five Miami commits, Coburn said a visit to the Miami metropolitan area was a possibility. The Hurricanes sent defensive quality control analyst Jonathan Patke in home with the defensive lineman Wednesday to line up the official visit.

Coburn is exactly the sort of defensive tackle Miami looks for in coordinator Manny Diaz’s 4-3 defense. He’s a true interior defensive lineman at 6-foot-1 and 329 pounds, which lets him create pressure with his burst and leverage. Physically, Coburn compares somewhat well to 4-star DT Nesta Silvera, who is the Hurricanes’ lone unsigned commitment. Coburn, however, is heavier and more reliable against the run, while Silvera is at his best as a pass rusher.
Coburn will still be a hard prospect for Miami to sway from his commitment to the Longhorns. The senior committed to Texas in August and took an official visit to Austin during December. Corby Meekins, Coburn’s former coach at Westfield High School in Houston, is now the Longhorns’ tight ends coach.
The Hurricanes, however, look like the only team which will get a crack at flipping Coburn. The defensive lineman doesn’t have any other official visits lined up.
Coburn is the third defensive tackle Miami has lined up for an official visit during the final weeks leading up to National Signing Day. Michael Thompson, another 4-star prospect, told SEC Country’s Alex Kirschner he’ll visit the weekend of Jan. 26 and 3-star DT Jamarcus Chatman told DieHards on Wednesday he’ll visit the weekend of Feb. 2. Silvera will also take an official visit at some point. The Hurricanes hosted 4-star DT Dennis Briggs for an official visit last weekend.
Coburn is considered the nation’s No. 8 defensive tackle in the 247Sports composite rankings. He ranks No. 116 overall and No. 13 in Texas. Thompson is the Miami’s only defensive tackle target ranked higher. The St. Louis prospect checks in at No. 2 at the position and No. 55 overall.
