While Tennessee prevailed after an exhilarating end in its game against Georgia Tech, it also helped put a finishing touch on a very successful opening weekend for ESPN.
The Vols’ 42-41 double-overtime win over the Yellow Jackets, an instant classic, drew a 3.3 overnight rating. That makes it the third-highest overnight for ESPN since last year’s Labor Day night matchup.
The only two games to top that mark came last Thursday when No. 2 Ohio State rallied for a 49-21 win over Indiana. The other matchup also involved the Buckeyes, who survived at Michigan State with a 17-16 win last November.
