Tennessee’s decision to reportedly fire John Currie on Friday could potentially be a very expensive move.

If the University dismissed him for cause, it would owe him nothing. But if the school can’t do that, Tennessee would Currie $100,00 for every month left on his contract. He had 54 months left on his contract, meaning the school could have to pay him $5.4 million.

Tennessee already owes Butch Jones $8.25 million after parting ways with him in November.

The school has not released anything official regarding Currie, but there are multiple reports out that the school has fired him. There are also multiple reports that Phil Fulmer has been undermining Currie in hopes that he could become the school’s athletic director.

Tennessee tried to hire Greg Schiano on Sunday, but the fan base literally revolted against the move, causing the agreement to fall apart. From there, Tennessee has whiffed on a number of different coaches in the days since.
