The Tennessee 2018 recruiting class once stood as the best in the SEC but it has fallen in the past six weeks as commits continue to look around and jump ship.
Add quarterback Adrian Martinez as the latest commit to look around at what other programs have to offer. The Fresno, Calif., native has taken an official visit to Ohio State this weekend, according to Jeremy Birmingham of Landof10.
My “secret” official visitor is here at Ohio State – Tennessee QB commit Adrian Martinez.

This is Martinez’s first official visit he has taken since his trip to Knoxville on Sept. 28. The Vols lost to Georgia 41-0 in what was the worst loss in Neyland Stadium history.
The game didn’t seem to have much of an effect on Martinez’s status. He said ‘I’m all in right now’ on the Vols when he came on SEC Country’s Rocky Top Podcast a month ago.
This the interview Tennessee has continued its losing ways, though. The Vols have dropped all five of its SEC games this season and coach Butch Jones’ job security has fallen into question.
Martinez has always held a positive view of Jones. It is unclear how a possible coaching change could change his commitment to the Vols.
“I have all the confidence in the world in coach,” Martinez said on the podcast. “I love him like family. He’s been great to me and my family and the other commits.”
Martinez has held a pretty low-profile on the recruiting trail. He didn’t play his senior season after undergoing shoulder surgery in the offseason. The last time he flirted with another team was five months ago when USC pushed him for a visit. The story kind of blew up and Martinez shut down the interest and said he was committed to Tennessee.
The Vols have lost commitments from 4 prospects this season. Martinez has seemed firm, but a trip to a school is worrisome. Especially when it is to a school of Ohio State’s stature.
