TCU may not move up in the College Football Playoff rankings this week, despite losses by teams ahead of the Horned Frogs.
SB Nation’s Jason Kirk projects the Frogs (8-1) to remain at No. 8 in the rankings Tueday night, same as last week. Despite losses by the former No. 6 and No. 7 teams, Ohio State and Penn State, Kirk projects undefeated Miami (8-0) and Wisconsin (9-0) to jump TCU this week.
The Badgers’ resume is improving thanks to FAU and Northwestern both becoming bowl-eligible this week. Miami is coming off a 28-10 win over former No. 13 Virginia Tech. Meanwhile, TCU’s best win took a hit as Oklahoma State lost its second game of the year over the weekend.
If the Frogs do get jumped this week, it shouldn’t matter too much. They have a chance at a high-quality win this week on the road against a likely top-5 team in Oklahoma. If TCU wins that game, it would once again have one of the most competitive resumes in college football. Plus, either Miami or Notre Dame will be knocked down in the rankings when the two teams face each other this weekend.
The road to the playoff remains fairly clear for TCU, especially with the chaos in the Big Ten. Though the Frogs might need a little assistance, getting to 12-1 and winning the Big 12 would make them tough to exclude. If the Pac-12 and Big Ten champions both have two losses, which is very possible, TCU will be in great shape.
The playoff committee releases its rankings Tuesday night at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.
