Since the Big 12 Conference formed in 1996, no team has gone on the road to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and won both of those games in the same season.
TCU football has a chance to become the first on Saturday.
Yes, the Horned Frogs, who joined the league 16 years after its first season, could do something no other Big 12 team has ever been able to do. A few teams have beaten Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in the same season, but none have won both of those games in Norman and Stillwater.
It’s a testament to how strong Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have been at home. Although, half the league for a better part of the conference’s history didn’t play Oklahoma and Oklahoma State each season. Also, it’s something the conference has avoided scheduling-wise.
Still, this would be a huge feat, not only in a historical context, but for TCU’s College Football Playoff resumé. A Frogs win on Saturday would give TCU more credibility as a top 4-caliber team in the playoff picture. And as much as Oklahoma is looking to prove itself against a great Horned Frogs defense, TCU is looking to prove itself against one of the best offenses in the country.
The game is set for an 8 p.m. ET start on FOX. Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt will be on the call.
