5-star PG Tre Jones announces top 6 schools, 2 from Big Ten

On Sunday, Class of 2018 five-star point guard recruit Tre Jones will announce where he will verbally commit to.

In an interview on Friday, Jones – the younger brother of former Duke point guard Tyus Jones – talked more in-depth about his top-six. The six schools he mentioned were Ohio State, Minnesota, UCLA, Oregon, USC and Duke.

Here’s what he said, via 247Sports about both Big Ten schools:

Ohio State: “New staff…New staff, but that staff recruited me above them. So, right when they got Ohio State, they offered me. I have a great relationship with them. I haven’t visited, but I’ve heard their campus is beautiful. And a tremendous opportunity with unlimited playing time, right off the bat. They’re looking to get their program back to when Conley was there and those guys were there.”

Minnesota: “Minnesota, they’re coming up for sure. Last year, they had a really good year for them. They cracked the tournament again. So, they’re back in there. I mean they’re building a brand new practice facility and then they’ve recruited my teammates very well…There’s no pressure there. And also there’s a Pro-Am that I play in..that I play against and with some of the Minnesota guys. So, I have some chemistry with those guys.”

According to 247Sports’ Crystal Ball Predictions on the No. 9-ranked player within his class, the 22 predictions give Duke a 100 percent chance at landing Jones. Nothing is set in stone, however, and predictions have certainly been wrong before.

Jones, the No. 1-ranked point guard in his class, is 6-foot-2 and is the 2016-17 Gatorade Minnesota Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
