5-star big man Naz Reid names LSU as one of his two finalists

Naz Reid is undoubtedly one of the top players in the country, and he’s been slowly whittling down his scholarship offers over the past few months as he prepares to make his final college decision. On Friday night, Reid took the penultimate step, naming his two finalists: Arizona and LSU:

LSU’s inclusion may be a bit surprising to some, especially given Reid’s extensive offer list. The Tigers are coming off of a dismal season, and fired head coach Johnny Jones earlier this offseason. However, new head coach Will Wade has long been seen as an elite recruiter, and he’s done an excellent job of selling Baton Rouge to Reid, and others, in his short stint in the Bayou.

According to 247Sports, Reid is the 10th-ranked player in the country, and a consensus five-star prospect. Standing 6-foot-9, he originally hails from New York City. He plays for Roselle Catholic in New Jersey.

As nice as it is for LSU to make the cut for such a highly-ranked prospect, Wade still has his work cut out for him to earn Reid’s signature. There is perhaps no program in the country — Kentucky and Duke included — recruiting like Arizona right now, and Wildcats head coach Sean Miller tends to get the players he wants. At the moment, however, 247’s Crystal Ball is predicting that Reid will indeed end up at LSU.
