Sporting News has West Virginia facing off against Utah in the Cactus Bowl, where the Mountaineers were placed in 2015 to face Arizona State.
The Utes are 6-6 and rank 5th in the Pac-12 South, ahead of only Colorado.
It’s safe to say the Mountaineers would be favored in this matchup if it came to pass. Utah has struggled after a 4-0 start, but has many close losses on their record, same as the Mountaineers. It would be a matchup of underrated teams with bad luck, which would make for a great game. However, if Will Grier is available, there’s no doubt that WVU would be favored.
It would be a bummer for WVU to be in the Cactus Bowl again, but taking home a win here and retaining Grier and David Sills would be a massive win heading into next year. The last time WVU won in the Cactus Bowl, they went on to win 10 games the year after.
