New offer out

Late last week, South Carolina offered 2020 running back Zachary Evans, a 6-foot, 180-pound prospect from North Shore High School in Houston.

“I’m still researching,” he said of the Gamecocks. “I just know I’m thinking of Jadeveon Clowney.”

Evans, who’s rushed for 770 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, has family in Rock Hill, S.C., the hometown of the Houston Texans outside linebacker who once starred at South Carolina.

Alabama, Ole Miss and Texas A&M are also among Evans’ early offers. He spoke with Gamecocks running backs coach Bobby Bentley after a coach told him about the offer.

“[Bentley] was telling me, I heard you’ve got family down here and stuff, [then asked] if I stay in contact with them. He was telling me how I’m impressing them,” Evans said.

He added, “I do plan on going to South Carolina and taking a visit, but I just don’t know when I’ll have time to do it.”

Texas A&M has hosted Evans for a couple of visits.

“With them, it’s the bond with their coaches,” he said. “They’re trying to make me feel as comfortable as possible. Seeing how their team has overcome adversity, they’ve been having a rough two weeks. Seeing them overcome that, it’s really interesting to me.”

On Saturday, he went to Alabama for the LSU game.

“The game was phenomenal,” Evans said. “Watching them compete like that, both teams were just fighting for it.”

A couple of factors will be considered as he moves through the recruiting process.

“It may not be the biggest deal, but to me, I want to see how the coaches are going. I want to see the bond between the players, like I said, overcoming adversity,” Evans said. “When it’s a tough game, I want to see how the coaching goes. I want to see how every team executes at the end of the day.”

Official visitors

Three of South Carolina’s 2018 targets are set to visit Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday for the Florida game:

  • 5-star DE K.J. Henry (Clemmons, N.C.)
  • 4-star DB Saivion Smith (St. Petersburg, Fla.)
  • 3-star DE Jarrett Jackson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.)
