One of the top South Carolina recruiting targets from the 2018 class is back on the market. Three-star safety Israel Mukuamu announced on Wednesday night that he’s no longer committed to Florida State.
The Gamecocks are among the prime contenders for Mukuamu, who was first offered by Will Muschamp, before his junior year at Berkeley (S.C.) High School. Now enrolled at Parkway High School in Bossier City, La., Mukuamu is expected to meet next week with defensive coordinator coach Travaris Robinson.
Mukuamu committed to Florida State in July, but left the door cracked for several schools, including South Carolina, Georgia and Indiana, among others.
The 6-foot-5 187-pound pound prospect is ranked No. 44 among 2018 safeties, according to the 247Sports composite. He recently told Phil Kornblut that a flip would be in the works, if Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher left for the Texas A&M job.
The “uncertainties about the future of the coaching staff,” Mukuamu wrote on Wednesday, played in a big part in the announcement.
