South Carolina recruiting: Gamecocks offer California QB Ryan Hilinski

South Carolina recruiting-Ryan Hilinski

Whenever Will Muschamp lands a commitment, the South Carolina coach drops a #SpursUp on Twitter. Come to SEC Country for the latest news, notes and observations in South Carolina recruiting.

A second 2019 QB offer

On Sunday, 3-star 2019 quarterback Ryan Hilinski tweeted that he had received an offer from South Carolina.

Boston College, Fresno State, Montana State and San Jose State have also offered Hilinski, who’s ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 21 pro-style quarterback in the country.

The 6-foot-3.5, 218-pound prospect from Orange (Ca.) Lutheran got the word from South Carolina during a phone call with Muschamp and offensive coordinator Kurt Roper.

“It all happened, actually, relatively fast,” Hilinski said. “This week, coach Roper reached out to my [offensive coordinator] and just told him how much he liked my film, how much he sees me fitting into the offense.”

Earlier this week, when they spoke on the phone, Roper said he looked forward to seeing what happened on Friday night. Hilinski said he’d put on a show.

On Sunday, after completing 20 of 25 passes for 270 yards and 2 touchdowns in Orange Lutheran’s win against defending state champion Cathedral Catholic, Hilinski made the call back east.

He’s the second 2019 quarterback to land an offer from South Carolina. In the summer, they tendered 4-star Garrett Shrader (Charlotte, N.C.), the No. 6 overall pro-style prospect in the country.

South Carolina recruiting reaction

“I was impressed. They played really well for Game 1. Defense gave up 28 points, but when they needed a stop, they came through. I’m ready to be a part of that.”

3-star WR Darius Rush

“They did great. Some things for them to clean up, but they did well.”

3-star OG LaMarius Benson

“It was a good all-around game.”

3-star C Hank Manos

“It was great. It was good to see the OL making improvements from last year.”

3-star WR Tyquan Johnson

“The team looked real good.”

3-star LB Ahdarrious Gee (2019)

“They looked good overall.”
