South Carolina football: Will Muschamp updates Gamecock injuries

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp updated the status of several Gamecocks who have suffered injuries during preseason camp.

The Gamecocks second-year head coach shared the latest after Saturday morning’s intra-squad scrimmage.

“Randrecous Davis, I think we’re going to get him back Wednesday or Thursday of next week,” Muschamp said. “He’s just had some issues getting out the soft tissues. C.J. Freeman is still coming off his ACL, so he’s been in and out of practice. Hoping to get him back next week.

“Tavyn Jackson has a little bit more of a serious hamstring. Probably going to be two to three weeks on him, before we get him back. Steven Montac is going to come out of the walking boot next week. I hope to get him back for preparation for N.C. State. We’ll know more when we  get him out of the walking boot.”

Muschamp said freshman wide receiver Shi Smith has been dealing with a hamstring injury, but should be back for Monday’s open practice. Redshirt freshman cornerback Chris Smith (hip) is “most likely headed for a medical [redshirt].”

Redshirt junior left tackle Malik Young “dinged” his shoulder during the scrimmage on Saturday, but should be OK to practice on Monday. Senior safety D.J. Smith suffered a shoulder stinger, but also should be fine when practice resumes.

Freshman safety Jaylin Dickerson (shoulder) underwent surgery earlier this week. Muschamp said it went well and they’re optimistic about his future.
