COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth entered the South Carolina football team’s media room with an ultimatum for the gaggle of reporters.
“Two minutes,” he said.
That’s all the Gamecock beat guys and gals were supposed to get.
Instead, they were treated to a comedic special that folks would pay good money for on Netflix. Things started to get goofy about four minutes into Stallworth’s interview alongside sophomore defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw.
Reporter: Javon, going back to running towards the sidelines, how much do your eyes widen when you see that opportunity present itself, to go and make an open field tackle?
Kinlaw: “Oh, in my mind, I’m fixing to knock this boy out. I start drooling. I’ll be like, ‘Come on, slow him down.’ And it happened. Jam [Williams] slowed him down enough, so I just tried to knock him out.”
Stallworth. “I like that.”
Reporter: Just describe that play, what happened when you raced all the way across the field to make that tackle. How did that play develop?

Stallworth: “Let me give y’all my perspective. … So I did my technique and I see JK coming free and I see Jam slow [the Florida player] down. In my mind, they better call the ambulance.”
Kinlaw: “From my perspective, you know, I ran the little stunt and they kept saying, ‘Watch the screen.’ So they throw that little pass, so I said, ‘Oh, yeah. It’s over. It’s over.’ So I just had to put the jets on a little bit, you know what I’m saying?”
Stallworth: (sound effect)
Kinlaw: “I ran over there, did my thing, got up, got a little hype. Had to go to the next play.”
Kinlaw: “Got to have fun in here. Hey, got to have fun in here.”
Reporter: During timeouts and stuff when you guys were on the field and stuff, you were doing a lot of dancing, having fun. How much did that get you guys fired up for the next series of plays?
Stallworth: “Well, first of all, it was cold, so we had to move somehow.”
Kinlaw: “I seen the [New York] Jets do it, when they were doing – their whole team was doing it, I was like, ‘We got to do that on Saturday.’ So every time they turned the song on, I just…”
Kinlaw: “…Got them boys hype, ready to play.”
Kinlaw: “Getting hype like that, it makes it a lot easier to play. Me, when I get hype like that, I’m like a little Chihuahua.”
Stallworth: “What? At least say Doberman.”
