South Carolina football’s most memorable moments from 2017

In Year 2 under coach Will Muschamp, there were plenty of memorable moments for the South Carolina football team, which finished with an 8-4 record.

The 2017 season certainly started with a bang.

2 scores vs. N.C. State

Deebo Samuel fielded the season-opening kickoff at the 3-yard line. Two cuts and 97 yards later, South Carolina had its first points of the season. It took Samuel 13 seconds to race up the Gamecocks sideline in Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.

It wasn’t even his most impressive touchdown of the day. That came in the third quarter with the game tied at 21. Jake Bentley played a part in that one.

2 scores at Missouri

A week later, Hayden Hurst followed with his own 2-touchdown performance, though Samuel also had a couple more against Missouri. Hurst’s first score, a 39-yard touchdown catch, helped give South Carolina a little more separation on the scoreboard.

No. 2 helped close the door on the Gamecocks’ 2-0 start. Who doesn’t love a good tight-end sweep play?

Defensive touchdowns

Before the Arkansas game, South Carolina hadn’t scored a defensive touchdown since 2014. The Gamecocks had 3 against the Hogs.

Skai Moore was first.

Followed by T.J. Brunson.

Keisean Nixon added one more, for good measure.

Tied with Bo Davies

Moore tied the South Carolina career interception record with his pick against Wofford. He and former defensive back Bo Davies now share the record (14). The senior linebacker has one more game to make it his own.

Bow up on the goal line

South Carolina’s defense had to make goal-line stands in the waning seconds against N.C. State and Tennessee. D.J. Smith and Chris Lammons, respectively, made the winning plays in those games.

Redemption Song

Parker White missed his first two field-goal attempts against Louisiana Tech. But with the game on the line, he knocked a 31-yarder through the uprights to help South Carolina avoid the upset.

Noted dual-threat

Bentley scored a pair of rushing touchdowns (19, 11) against Vanderbilt. He would have two more 2-touchdown performances, before the end of the season.
