COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina football team worked out in helmets on Friday morning, to prepare for the Saturday afternoon scrimmage at Williams-Brice Stadium.

It’s the first of two preseason camp scrimmages for the Gamecocks and several roles are still up for grabs, including the No. 1 left tackle job. Junior college transfer Dennis Daley was with the first-team at left tackle during the offense’s work against a scout team defense.

The Gamecocks worked on variety of screen plays to wide receivers, running backs and tight ends.

Bryan Edwards and Deebo Samuel were the top two wide receivers, but freshman Shi Smith and Terry Googer rotated in with the group. The tight end rotation included Jacob August, K.C. Crosby and Hayden Hurst.

The first running back in with the group was Rico Dowdle, but redshirt Ty’Son Williams worked in when the starters took the field after the backups rotated in.

Chris Lammons and D.J. Smith, as expected, are the starting safeties while Rashad Fenton and JaMarcus King are the top two cornerbacks. Jamyest Williams saw time with the first-team as the nickel back.

South Carolina’s backup offensive skill players included Smith and Chad Terrell at wide receiver. Kyle Markway and Kiel Pollard were the tight ends. A.J. Turner and Mon Denson split the running back reps. Michael Scarnecchia was the quarterback.
