Nonconference schedule is always a big talking point when is comes to selecting the field for college basketball’s March Madness, and South Carolina is taking that consideration very seriously.
On Tuesday afternoon the Gamecocks announced that they have scheduled a home-and-home matchup with ACC power Virginia, beginning in 2018.
South Carolina will host Virginia on Dec. 19, 2018, and the Gamecocks will travel to Charlottesville to play the Cavaliers on Dec. 18, 2019.
The matchup in 2018 will be the programs’ first meeting since 2002, and Gamecocks coach Frank Martin has never faced the Cavaliers in his head coaching career.
Virginia is annually one of the best defensive teams in the nation and are routinely in contention for the ACC regular season and tournament championships. The Cavaliers won back to back regular season championships in 2014-15 and won the tournament in 2014.
South Carolina is coming off of an incredible Final Four run in 2016, and the Gamecocks return to the floor for the first official time in 2017 on Friday, Nov. 10 at Wofford.
