Looking to add a fourth member to the No. 1 class in the country, North Carolina was set to host Simi Shittu this weekend for his official visit.
However, that will no longer be the case.
A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to Tar Heels DieHards on Wednesday that the 5-star power forward will no longer take his Nov. 10 official visit as originally scheduled. Evan Daniels of 247Sports initially reported this development in his early signing day hot board on Wednesday.
The source also indicated that the reason Shittu cancelled his visit is related to the commitment of 5-star small forward Nassir Little, who ranks as the No. 9 overall player in the Class of 2018.
North Carolina and Vanderbilt were considered the top two contenders for Shittu, which seems to set the Commodores up well for a commitment in the near future. Shittu officially visited Vanderbilt in October.
The Tar Heels’ Class of 2018 is near capacity and Shittu and 5-star small forward Zion Williamson are the only two players they are actively pursuing for a fourth spot. Williamson is a close friend of Little, which has helped North Carolina jump back in the race for one of the top players in the class.
