COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina is back home at Williams-Brice Stadium to close out Year 2 under Will Muschamp with three straight home games. Up first: Florida. Mike Chapman joins SEC Country’s Hale McGranahan to look at this week’s game against the Gators in this edition of Zaxby’s Sound Off.
South Carolina set to face struggling Florida
South Carolina coach Will Muschamp may not be big on moral victories, but there was certainly reason for Gamecocks fans to feel good about their team’s performance on the road in Athens. (:20)
The feel-good start to Year 2 under Muschamp would start to go out the window if Florida comes to Columbia and pulls off an upset. (1:46)
Senior defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth is questionable for this weekend with a head injury. Stallworth left the Georgia game after tackling freshman quarterback Jake Fromm. Senior safety D.J. Smith also left the game against the Dawgs with a hip injury, but later returned. (2:07)
Who are the potential replacements for Stallworth if he’s unable to play against Florida? Sophomores Keir Thomas and Kobe Smith probably are the top two options. (3:52)
This isn’t the same type of Gators team that Gamecocks fans have grown accustomed to seeing. This needs to be a game where the home team starts fast. Early scores can help take the air out of Florida. (4:56)
Despite what is going on at Florida right now, on and off the field, there are plenty of talented players on that roster, even though the Gators will be without several on Saturday. (7:13)
After all, this is still a Florida team with Florida athletes. And they’re certainly capable of coming alive at Williams-Brice. (7:40)
That’s why early points from South Carolina could go a long way in helping the Gamecocks clinch win No. 7. (7:52)
Nonetheless, this is a game South Carolina should win. Doing so would make it the third time in program history that South Carolina’s beaten Florida and Tennessee in the same season (2005, 2011). (8:32)
The guys make their predictions for Saturday. (8:40)
