Florida State (3-5) was able to put behind its disastrous loss to Boston College and score a 27-24 victory over Syracuse last weekend on a beautiful sunny day at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. The Seminoles held on for their first home win of the year when Orange kicker Cole Murphy missed a potential tying 43-yard field goal as time expired.
It will still be difficult, but there is a path for the Seminoles to advance to a bowl game for a 36th straight year. Jimbo Fisher’s squad earned the victory over Syracuse despite going just 1-for-13 on third-down conversions because it made enough defensive stops and received a standout effort from freshman running back Cam Akers, who finished with 199 yards and 2 touchdowns on 22 carries.
Next up for the ‘Noles is a road test against defending national champion Clemson, which will certainly be the toughest task for Fisher’s crew since the season opener against Alabama. This contest was supposed to be for ACC supremacy. Now, FSU is simply looking to play the role of spoiler.
In this week’s episode of Sound Off, presented by Zaxby’s, ACC DieHards writers Dave Miller and Joe McCaffrey discuss the latest news surrounding FSU as it looks to give its fans a strong end to the 2017 campaign.
